Walkabout Wednesday: The title of my next book

It's Wednesday. Let's go walkabout.

(I'm bringing along a few of my mates as I wander through the vast wilderness of the publishing industry, learning the ins and outs, and having a grand adventure.)

Walkabout, Week 59:

Titles are a tricky thing. They need to sum up a book's themes and storyline, fit the feel of the characters and setting. They should grab a reader's attention and be memorable. And a title should accomplish all this in just a few words.

As authors we submit a manuscript with a title we came up with (in my case, usually a pretty lame one) along with suggestions for other titles, a list of themes, important words and phrases, character names and descriptions, basic plot information, etc. to help the publisher's marketing team come up with a killer title. Let me just say, I do not envy them. Titles are not my thing. At all.

Having said that, I wanna give a big ol "whaaa-whaaa" to the marketing team over at Covenant for the fabulous title they picked for my next book, coming out sometime the first part of next year:

The Accidental Wife

And, yep, there's a wife. And she became a wife pretty much on accident. And, of course, drama, comedy, mishaps and love all ensue!!!

Psssstttt.... Don't forget to enter October's giveaway for your chance to win a fabulous box of assorted chocolates!

I've always heard that titles have to tell and sell. They give the reader a sense of what the book is about and they are snappy. You've got a great title!

Is this the same first book of yours???? If so, I fell in love with the book with the old title and I don't think I'll be able to give it up too easily, but Accidental Wife is intrigue inspiring...
Enjoying [finally] Courting Miss Lancaster. I really love the pace of the book. COMPLETELY ENJOYABLE! Loving it!!! Plus I love carrying around a book that I can say, "Oh, it is a book my friend wrote... you can pick it up at the book store." Makes me famous by association!
