I Need Friends Friday: Kara, whom I met in line at the post office

Every Friday I interview a different person and share that interview with you. Perhaps they will be a fellow-author. Perhaps one of my neighbors. Maybe the bagger at the grocery store. A member of my family. A follower of this blog. Maybe it will be you! Hey, it could happen.

Today's INFF guest has great taste in post offices. She stood in line recently, waiting to mail a package, at the same time I stood in line waiting to mail a package. It was fate. And I never argue with fate.

I'll confess, this interview may not be entirely verbatim, but this is as close to the actual conversation as I can conceivable recount.

Enjoy!

SME: Mailing a package?

Kara: *nods*

SME: Can I ask you a completely random question?

Kara: Okay. *looks mildly concerned*

SME: I do interviews of random people on my website every Friday. Do you mind if I ask you a couple questions while we're waiting and put it up this Friday?

Kara: Seriously?

SME: Yeah. Seriously.

Kara: Sure, I guess.

SME: Awesome. Where are you mailing your package?

Kara: To England.

SME: No kidding? I am a little obsessed with England. Do you have family there?

Kara: No. A friend of mine lives there.

SME: How does this friend of yours feel about unannounced visitors?

Kara: *looks confused and a little concerned.

SME: I'm totally kidding. *I wasn't totally kidding*
Which kind of pie do you like better, Apple or Pumpkin?

Kara: I like pumpkin.

SME: The pie question is a regular one on the website right now.

Kara: You ask people about pie?

SME: We talk about food a lot.

Kara: *smiles and laughs a little*

SME: I also always ask what the person's favorite continent is.

Kara: *a kind of laugh* What?

SME: It's a real question, but I know it's kind of strange.

Kara: North America, I guess.

SME: Even though your friend is in England?

Kara: Yeah, I guess.

SME: I also usually draw a stick figure portrait of the person I'm interviewing.

Kara: That's kind of crazy.

SME: Also a regular feature on my website.

Kara: "Crazy" is a regular feature? Or "stick figures" is a regular feature?

SME: Both.

Kara: Sounds fun.

SME: It entertains me, anyway.

*literally draws a stick figure while standing there*

SME: What do you think?

Kara: It's definitely a stick figure.

SME: That's the way it works.

*At this point, it was Kara's turn to mail her package and we didn't get to finish the interview. So, if you made it on to the blog, Kara, thanks for being a good sport!*

SME: *cue exit music* Well, this has been "I Need Friends" Friday. Come back next week when I will make another friend!!
