Walkabout Wednesday... The Holiday of Coolness
>> Wednesday, March 17, 2010
It's Wednesday. Let's go walkabout.
(I'm bringing along a few of my mates as I wander through the vast wilderness of the publishing industry, learning the ins and outs, and having a grand adventure.)Walkabout, Week 28:
I love St. Patrick's Day. This particular love of mine dates back many, many years--my entire life, in fact. I can site a myriad of possible reasons:
- I love the color green.
- My mother saw to it that every single bite of food we ate on March 17th was green: green kool-aid, lime jell-o, mashed potatoes with green food coloring...
- I'm not Irish, but people have told me over the years that I look like I am.
- I have an oddly deep attachment to Irish drinking songs, despite not being a drinker myself.
These are all really good reasons. They are also not the real reasons.
You see, St. Patty's Day is my holiday. I firmly believed growing up that my friends all wore green to school on March 17th in honor of me. No, I wasn't a horribly conceited child with overblown ideas of my own significance. March 17th is.... my birthday.
<-----(My brother and I when I was just a little, bitty baby. [I'm the one with the groovy pink pants.])

Yep. I LOVE St. Patrick's Day!
An Irish Blessing,
in honor of the coolest holiday of the year
May those who love us, love us.
And for those who don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he can not turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we may know them by their limping.
And for those who don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he can not turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we may know them by their limping.
Happy Holiday of Coolness, everybody!

That Irish blessing cracks me up.
I hope your holiday of coolness is as cool as cool can be!
That is one of my favorite Irish blessings!
Happy Birthday! I hope I never limp. I didn't know I loved the Irish till I visited their beautiful country. I ate some of the best food I have ever eaten there. They aren't kidding when they say there are 40 shades of green in Ireland.
I am afraid that there would be a lot of people limping. Your a funny lady and I love your posts. Happy Birthday to you. I hope the day is filled with fun and the leprechauns don't create to much trouble for you.
How fun! Happy Birthday! I hadn't heard that Irish blessing before. I was ready for a more serious tone (you'd think I never visited your blog before), and then busted up laughing. Happy St. Patty's!
I think Krista wins for the comment that made me laugh the hardest.
There is very little around here that is serious in tone.
Happy Birthday!! Hope it's GREAT!! We are all wearing green in honor of you today.
That's hilarious, you love Irish drinking songs. When I hear them now, I'll think of you!!
Today is also my DH's birthday, so we are celebrating over here too. Have a fabulous St. Patrick's Day (not to mention b-day).
Hope you had a most excellent Holiday of Coolness yesterday. I wanted to buy you some green Cheetos, but I guess that trend hasn't really caught on yet because I couldn't find them anywhere.
I spent three hours at the dentist yesterday getting a crown, and I think I may have seen an actual leprechaun. It was probably just the nitrous. But that's a whole different story.
Sending many belated but well-intentioned birthday wishes your way!
Happy late birthday. I hope it was great. I enjoyed meeting you the other day, at your book launch. Looking forward to a great read... :)
